PO1st Class Stoker Mechanic Standeasy
The name of the mascot aboard "Maggie" was Petty Officer First Class Stoker
Mechanic Standeasy,( as attested to on his station card,}  who tragically was
killed instantly when he was struck by a car on the Bedford Highway on June 30
1955.
He joined the navy in 1947 aboard HMCS Warrior and transfered to the "Maggie"
in 1948 and he was aboard carriers for 19 months when illness forced him
ashore. He had one more sea venture when HMCS Nootka, departing for Korea took
PO Standeasy aboard as their mascot. But permission was denied and he was
returned from Bermuda aboard the oil tanker Dundalk. A good shipmate.

NEWFIE
Newfie

Was our mascot on 825 squadron. This picture is a metal print of Newf mounted on a wooden base. A good friend "Blackie" Edwards [ the founding member of CNAG] gave it to me at our 1986 reunion. Newf is here on my wall surrounded by pictures of his old squadron friends, who will always remember him. I would like to beleive that "Blackie" is taking good care of both him and Standeasy,at this very moment!

Cheers! Allen
